KENYA: Ulinzi Warriors sail to final
Ulinzi Warriors sailed to the final of the East and Central Africa Club Champions men's division when they beat Urunani of Burundi by six points at the Nyayo basketball gymnasium yesterday.
Kenya's Ulinzi was given a run for their money by the Burundian youngsters who scored 61 points.
It will be an all Kenyan final as Ulinzi will either fight it out with defending champions Kenya Commercial Bank, who were facing Co-op Bank in the other semifinal at Press time.
In the women's division Sprite Storms (Kenya) enhanced their chances of retaining the Championship's trophy for women when they beat A-1 Challenge of Uganda by 42 points.
The self supporting A-1 Challenge of Uganda did not provide much challenge to Storms who dominated the game from the bell.
Storms started the game on a slow pace ending the first quarter with 12 points to A-1 Challenge's 8.
Storms then took a commanding lead at half-time when they took scores to 39, while A-1 Challenge were on 16.
Storms' captain Angela Luchinga was the highest scorer with 11 points while Betty Namukasa top scored for her side with 10.
The Storms are unbeaten so far but are yet to meet arch rivals Kenya Ports Authority with whom they are tied at eight points apiece from their four outings.
The Mombasa based dockers proved too strong for the national University of Rwanda (UNR) whom they beat by a massive 49 points at the same venue yesterday.
The KPA team banked on experience to convert most of the balls in their possession to baskets unlike UNR who lost many chances through inaccuracy.
The UNR have not won a match so far.
They play their last game today against Berco Stars of Burundi.
The two Kenyan sides are set to meet today in what is expected to be the match decider of the women's championships.
The winner of today's event will end their games with a maximum 10 points and the loser will take the second spot with eight points.
