UGANDA: Hoops in for Busy Season
THIS year's national basketball league championship will start at Lugogo Indoor stadium on April 1.
According to the 2006 calendar released by the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) organising secretary, Edmund Lumu, the new season will open with the players and clubs registration January 14- March 10.
The second round matches of the men's first division and women's league will start in July with the national league playoffs to determine the 2006 winners in the three categories getting underway between October and November.
Uganda will host the East African Inter-cities tournament at Lugogo May 17-21, while this year's East, Central and Southern Africa Club Championship is slated for Kenya, Nairobi April 18-23.
Clubs that will participate in the men's league will have an opportunity to try out their new signings during the two-day Hoops-of-Hope and Makerere Open tournaments to be staged at YMCA and Makerere courts in March.
The women will have their chance to test their new players in the Barbara Atim memorial at YMCA and Makerere on March 8.
