TANZANIA: JKT victors

Tanzania basketball giants, Savio, saw their third basketball title slipping away when they lost to their archrivals JKT Stars in the National Basketball League final, held over the weekend at Jamhuri Stadium, Morogoro.
It was one of the most successful events for JKT whose women’s team also won after beating Cargo Ladies in a one-sided final.
JKT Stars fought hard to gun down Savio 47-43 while JKT Ladies hammered Cargo Ladies 52-32 in the final.
Savio called back Henry Mwinuka to assist Jije Makani, Mohamed Yusuf and Michael Mwita while JKT fielded their top scorer, Charles Makene to play alongside Frank Kusiga, Frank Simkoko, Frank Kusiga and Juma Kissocky.
At all events, it was JKT who snatched the early lead when they finished the first quarter with 22 points against 19 for Savio.
Henry Mwinuka managed to score 10 points while Mkumbo Mgendi of JKT walked off with 8 points.
On their side JKT Ladies scored through Mary Frank who managed 9 points, though it was Monica Alloys of Cargo Ladies who was the top scorer with 19 points followed by Fununa Yasin who landed 7 points.
