NIGERIA: Players Screening Date Shifted
The final screening for the Vmobile Premier League players scheduled to hold yesterday did not hold as it was moved to next week. The Secretary general of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Mr. Segun Akinlotan gave a new date as Monday, the 20th.
In a letter to all the clubs in the league, the Secretary said that the date and all others listed were definite and final dates.
"I advise that you work with this timetable as these dates are final and unchangeable," the letter read in part.
By the schedule, the Vmobile League Advisory Committee will meet at the offices of the NBBF located at Plot 483, Kumasi Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, on the 20th to look at the players' registration amongst other issues. The Committee is made up of some NBBF officials and the two representatives of the clubs from the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences. The League Director Muktar 'Malone' Khaleh met with the clubs across both conferences on the 7th and 8th of this month in Abuja and Lagos respectively.
The Referees/match Commissioners' refresher clinic will hold as scheduled in Minna from the 21st through the 23rd while the Media Launch for the League is billed for the 27th of this month in Lagos.The league proper is billed to take the first jump ball on Saturday, 4th March in Lagos with games for other centres immediately afterwards. It will thereafter run through the next three months with the detail Road Trips without any break with the play off following the regular season. Matches will hold through the Commonwealth Games period and will only round off in time for the men's and Women's International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Championships. The male and female national teams will feature in the basketball event of the Commonwealth Games next month.
New entrants Union Bank Club won the shortened version of the league last season.
