TANZANIA: NBL at end of this month

The preparations for the National Basketball League (NBL) to be held in Morogoro have commenced. Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Secretary General, Lawrence Cheyo said recently that the six teams, which finished top in last year’s edition, have confirmed their participation.
The teams are Savio (titleholders), JKT, Army Basketball Club (ABC), Oilers, Bombo Giants and the former East and Central Africa champions, Vijana City Bulls.
Cheyo said the championship (January 23-29), would also be open for women teams. However, he said no teams had confirmed their participation so far. “We have given them January 20 as the deadline,” said Cheyo.
He said the would-be winners would represent the country in the East and Central Africa Championship, expected to be held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi in April.
He added that the four best placed teams would represent Tanzania Mainland in the Union League set for April this year.
The Union League is held on a rotational basis between Tanzanian Mainland and the Isles.
