Abe Linc XIII Tournament
Kenyan sides Predators and USIU Tigers were crowned the Champions of 13th Edition of the Abe Linc International Tourney after winning their respective finals.
Predators edged out Kampala City Council 56-52 in thrilling women’s final that saw the teams tie 50-50 with a minute to go. Josephine Nabwire of Predators was named MVP.
In the Men’s action packed final, United States International University USIU Tigers clawed their way to lift their second ever regional championship. Abel Nson was Tigers point-man hitting seven 3pointers in a row to earn him a well deserved MVP award. Nson had a game high 34 points despite being forced out by an injury in the last six minutes, with team mates George Baguma, Rocky Otieno and Dennis Miruka adding 11 points a piece for USIU. Charles Dismus had 16 points, Wilbrod Oketcho 08pts and 12 rebounds, Isaac Afidra had 13 points for the 1996 winners.
The other teams that represented Kenya at the event were Harleys (USIU Flames Alumni) International Christian Centre ICC, and the “seven” man army Ol’Tigers (USIU Tigers Alumni). Ol’Tigers were eliminated by USIU Tigers 57-52 in the quarter finals. The tournament was sponsored by Nile Breweries, City Oil, Asiatic Sports and International Aids Vaccine Initiative (IAVI).
