UGANDA : All set for intriguing end to ladies’ regular season
Of recent, the Fuba female regular seasons have been all too predictable to generate commanding interest.
This season, however, a few surprise teams have stepped up to upset the apple-cart, writes Dorothy Kyamazima.
With just a few rounds to go, KCC Leopards and UCU Lady Canons are the only qualified teams on 36 and 35 points respectively. The two sides meet this Saturday in an evenly balanced contest with the Lady Canons out to maintain the bragging rights that saw them blitz their way to the title last season.
On the other hand, the tie could turn out to be a mere exhibition of skills given that only pride is at stake and both teams are favourites to face off in the playoff final. Hence the real battle is filling up the remaining two slots, which any two of Magic Stormers, KIU Rangers or Makerere Sparks can take up.

The most notable change is that the once formidable A1 Challenge is virtually out of playoff contention following a humiliating loss to Nabisunsa last weekend. Currently lying sixth with nine losses and with just one fixture left, this is their worst ever season for the 2005 champs.
That said, third-placed Rangers are finely poised on 31 points. The perennial underachievers have recently stepped up their game with wins over A1 Challenge and Magic Stormers. All they need is pick up just one more win to guarantee playoff qualification.
That, however, cannot be said of the Stormers, who are barely clutching onto the final slot on the basis of their superior points difference over Sparks. Then again, they also have three games to go compared to Sparks’ two.
Stormers were high flying but have stumbled a bit of late and last weekend’s loss to Nabisunsa dented their hopes of making the playoffs for the first time.
All of which sets up an intriguing climax to the regular season.
