The Kenya National men’s basketball team thrashed their Rwandan opponents 56-47 Sunday evening to send a serious message to the zone V championships host (Rwanda). Despite a more spirited fight exhibited by the men’s basketball team , the Kenyans still secured victory.
Rwanda’s loss sent a message to the duo of Jean de Dieu Nizeyimana (men’s national coach) and Cliff Owuor (ladies’ national coach) that there’s still alot of homework to do before the event gets underway later this month.
Rwanda is under pressure to produce one of it’s finest basketball perfomances considering the fact that she is hosting the tournament.
The men and women basketball sides got off to a sparkling start of their nairobi tour registering victories over Unites States International University (USIU). However, the happy times were short lived when Rwandans failed to cope with the Kenyan style of play.
Having lost to Yaya basketball club 49-43 on saturday, the national women’ side failed to stand to their feet when they succumbed to a 69-36 defeat at the hands of the Kenyan ladies. Despite a spirited fight from the men’s side, Kenya still proved a hard bone to crack when it edged Rwanda 56-47.
“There’s still alot to do for the national teams. Much as we registered some wins over kenyan clubs, our main focus is the national team. We expect to play Kenya in the Zone V event and victory for us here (Nairobi) would have given us more confidence. We have discovered our weakenesses and we are going to try and work on them in the little time that we have,” Owuor, noted.
