UGANDA : Warriors’ Sagamba stars for St Lawrence in ZUBL

KAMPALA. His talent is unquestionable. What remains to be seen is whether guard Sedar Sagamba can exhibit his awesome skills with consistency.
During Saturday’s Zuku University Basketball (ZUBL) League at Bushcourt, Kololo, Sagamba showed he is a class apart from his peers.
Yet, he didn’t have to engage a second gear but still dominated proceedings for his side, St Lawrence University.
The guard, who also features for Warriors in the topflight national league, scored a game high 17 points to guide St Lawrence to a 55-37 victory over Cavendish.
Michael Makiadi, another national league big name, scored 16 points in a losing effort for Cavendish in what was their second game of the campaign. There were two other men’s games played from the eight scheduled with Victor Oleja’s 10 points guiding Kyambogo to a 41-35 win over International University of East Africa (IUEA) and Busoga edging Kyambogo 36-34. In the ladies’ category, IUIU, the whipping team of last year’s championship, overcame a slow start in which they trailed 14-8 and 25-24 after the first two quarters to beat St Lawrence University 45-41 before losing 28-41 to Cavendish. Sumaya Nabiranda and Prosper Nansikombi led the charge for Cavendish
with 17 and 16 points respectively while Emmah Akinyi scored 17 for the losing side.
The tournament started last month and continues tomorrow at KIU with Mubs playing Makerere in one of the day’s biggest fixtures.
