The UCU Canons overcame a 20 points first half hole to defeat Ndejje University Angels 68-58 on Sunday night at YMCA.
Guard, Joseph Wacha stepped off the bench to lift Canons (2-1) with game high 18 points, connecting 8-of-9 shots from the floor.
Despite missing their two big men – Brian Ssentongo and Jeje Chaka, Ndejje got off a flying start with point guard, Micheal Otieno (18 points) lighting up the scored board to end the first quarter leading by 14 points (23-7).
However, that was all for Ndejje. While Canons’ offense woke up as the game progressed, Ndejje’s went to bed despite their 15 points lead at halftime.
UCU started the third quarter with a 16-4 run to chase down Ndejje and levelled the game at 41 before Ndejje edged ahead to go into the final quarter leading 48-45.
UCU’s offensive spark continued in the final quarter and took the lead for good with under four minutes. Temperatures rose at Ndejje’s technical bench and head coach, Walker Obedi earned a technical in the process.
Derrick Katumba the only available big man for Ndejje contributed 16 points and picked 9 rebounds in a losing effort.
After sitting out aginst Oilers, UCU’s center Ivan Lumanyika returned with 11 rebounds and 6 points.
