KAMPALA. They obtained topflight league status by acquiring promoted UCU JV’s place and raised a few eyebrows with the acquisition of guards Syrus Kiviiri, Steven ‘Duxx’ Mwesigye and Yves Kalambayi.
Our Saviour, as they are called, are bound to attract even more attention after US-based 7ft 3 center Marial Dhal confirmed he would be arriving in the country next week to sign for the newly formed club.
“Yes I am flying in next Tuesday to come and play for my friend (Martin Kelly), who bought a club,” the 27-year-old revealed to Saturday Monitor on Thursday.
Kelly featured for six-time champions Falcons during the past season.
A former Canisius College student, Dhal, who also holds Sudanese citizenship, had been expected to be part of Uganda’s team at last year’s Fiba Africa Zone V Nations Basketball Championship before injury ruled him out of the tournament.
“After college I played for Lima and got injured, had surgery and came back and played for Harlem Rocket DC,” he added.
Harlem Rocket is mainly made up of a group of highly talented former college and professional basketball players specializing in fundraising for schools, charities and civic organizations.
His arrival will also make him the tallest player in the league ahead of KIU’s Sam Gombya who stands at 7 ft 1.
