KENYA / Mt. Kenya Top Inter Provincial Play-Offs in Kisumu


MOUNT Kenya University (MKU) Thika won the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Inter Provincial Play-offs in Kisumu hitting 4-Christ 51-38 in the finals at the Kenyatta sports ground. By making it to the final of this 16 team tournament, the two teams booked themselves the tickets to the KBF Division One league next year.
Nairobi provided seven of the eight quarter finalists. The winners got off to a 14-9 in a nip and tuck first quarter but 4-Christ took the second with a strong 12-3 display as they retired to the break with a 21-17 advantage.
MKU took the third quarter with a 21-9 cushion and hanged on 13-8 in the last to be crowned winners. The Thika-based students had Gaston Simidi nailed 14 points, Lameck Namwini shot 11 and Daniel Lubutse had 8.
For the losers, who had star play maker Dan Imbali out on injury, suffered during a tight semi-finals against Zetech University. Teddy Kakai stepped up to rally the troops with 14 points.
Zetech University claimed the third place when they silenced the home team Kisumu Urbanville 44-41 in a tightly contested duel that could have gone either way.
To qualify for the finals, MKU Thika overwhelmed Kisumu Urbanville 42-29 in the first semi while 4-Christ stopped Zetech University 48-34 in other semi.
