RWANDA men’s senior basketball team coach Moise Mutokambali finds
Espoir’s recent appalling performance at the Zone V Club Championships a
warning to national team ahead of a regional meet slated for September
21-30 in Kampala.
The 2012 winners and 2013 first runners-up, Espoir BC finished sixth out of eight teams at this year’s regional club championships staged in Mombasa last month.
Mutokambali’s team kicked-off a two-week residential camp at La Palisse Hotel on Monday in preparations for the Fiba/Africa Zone Five Championships.
Mutokambali, who was in Mombasa as an observer said that he took big lessons from Espoir’s poor showing and that he wants to make sure his side avoids similar ‘negative’ approach in Kampala.
“Espoir’s pitfall in Mombasa taught me a lesson. Luckily, I was there to witness and I’m confident it won’t be the same case with the national team in Kampala,” Mutokambali told Times Sport on Tuesday.
He also noted that he expects the professional players to give his team a big boost t in terms of experience.
The squad in camp that is dominated by Espoir players (6), also includes; Nicolas Yannick Gihana (France), Kami Kabange from City Oilers of Uganda, while Bradley Cameroon (USA) and American-born Kenny Gasana (Morocco) are expected to join camp today.
However, there is still big doubt about team captain Hamza Ruhezamihigo, who is said to be demanding a lot of money (wages) to come, according to the local basketball federation.
