UGANDA : City Oilers eager to test Falcons’ title credentials
KAMPALA- An intriguing encounter is anticipated
today when City Oilers and Krishna Falcons face off in the Airtel
National Basketball League.
Oilers, the current champions, come into this game
as the form side in the league having racked up six consecutive
victories since the 77-72 loss to UCU Canons.
Six-time champions Falcons meanwhile, are atop the
league log having won seven of their eight games in what has been an
equally consistent start to the season. Key to Falcons fast start has
been a solid back court that has had Syrus Kiviiri and Martin Kelly
excel for Sam Obol’s side.
Veteran Steve Omony has also been vital with the forward averaging 16 points in his last three games.
Falcons’ cause for worry though, will be the fact
that Oilers, despite not hitting top gear were able to dispatch Riham
Warriors 66-49 last Friday.
On Wednesday, another David versus Goliath
scenarios was played out as five-time champions Tiger Head Power fell
70-64 to Charging Rhinos in front of an average crowd at YMCA. “We did
not play well but showed more desire which just helped us over the
line,” Rhino’s coach Hamza Nyambogo said after the game.
With the first quarter ending 12 apiece, the next
two quarters were split between the two sides with Rhino edging the
fourth 23-19.
Peter Lubega’s 18 points coupled with Allan
Kobel’s 14 helped the underdogs outlast Power which had guard Paul Odong
score a game high 22 points.
