UGANDA : Charging Rhinos crash Power as Titans blowout Vegetarian

Vegetarian 44-89 KIU Titans
Tiger Head Power 64-70 Charging Rhinos
It is now a distant memory that Tiger Head Power looked like they were back to normal business nearly two weeks ago when they recorded back-to-back wins. Just when many thought the five time champions were determined more than ever not to blunder again, Hamza Nyambogo and the Charging Rhinos thought otherwise.
“We want to play well every game and we will give this one a good account. If we win well and good but we will be disappointed if we lose” Nyambogo said prior to the game.
The Rhinos were all out from tip-off and competed for every ball, took the shots defended well and the outcome was a memorable 70-64 win over Power under the flood lights of YMCA Outdoor Court.
Peter Lubega led the scoring for Rhinos (3-4) with team 18 points and 7 rebounds off the bench but it was Edgar Mwebaze’s 3-pointers and Allan Kobel’s second chance points that kept Power chasing. Mwebaze went 4-for-7 beyond the arc for 12 points and Kobel had 14 points and game high 13 rebounds.
Paul Odong did everything for Power (5-3) but in a losing effort before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. The guard netted game high 22 points and handed out 7 helpers. Norman Blick had 20 points and 9 rebounds and Joseph Ikong contributed 12 points.
Power were notably without Philip Ameny, Abdullahi Ramadhan and Isaac Afidra on the floor but the trio were present and behind the team bench and watched on as Power dropped their third game of the season
Meanwhile KIU Titans posted their highest scoring and most effective shooting game of the season as they spanked Vegetarian 89-44. Titans went 30-for-35 inside the arc and sunk 5-of-9 from distance.
Thanks to a combined and balanced offensive team play that saw four titans reach double figures in scoring led by Chris Omanye with 15 points KIU got their fifth win of the season. Suubi Kasujja, Sam Gombya and Julius Lutwama contributed 14, 11 and 10 points respectively.
The abysmal Vegetarian were led by last year’s regular season MVP Ben Okumu with game high 19 points and Richard Ongomu added 14 points.
