The Friday Night Lights Basketball Season 4 came to an end last night. After eight weeks of fun basketball, Team Ikong were crowned champions for a third time following a hard fought 73-68 win over Team Blick at the packed beyond capacity YMCA.
Team Blick started the game with energy as though they had not played a few hours earlier (which they beat Team Sudi 81-73) but trailed 11-14 after the first quarter. They scored 22 in the second period to go into halftime trailing by a point (33-34). Team Blick matched Team Ikong until mid-fourth quarter when the champions opened up a 5 points lead and eventually won by the same margin.
Joseph Ikong led his team to the third championship with 17 and 10, Geoffrey Soro added 16 points and Snap Babumba had 14 points. Team Blick was led by Jonah Otim’s 15 points.
Meanwhile the National Team lost to an FNL Select side 50-52. Steven Omony had 14 points for the national side while bigs Kami Kabange and Philip Ameny scored 10 points apiece for the FNL Select side.
The organisers of the event Kinetic Management were grateful to everybody that made this year event successful and confirmed the event will be back next year bigger and better.
“I want to thank (you) the fans and all the guys that have made this event successful. The teams, FUBA and sponsors – Castle Lite, KCB...” Kinetic’s Cedric Babu said in a short speech. “I hope you guys have enjoyed the last four years and hope we will do it next year” he added.
On another note the start date for the 2014 National Basketball League was also made known. “The league starts on 18th (April) and i hope you will be here again” FUBA president Ambrose Tashobya revealed.
