SEYCHELLES : Dawgz, Cobras grab victories
Mont Fleuri Dawgz and Premium Cobras
claimed victories in their opening matches of the season in the first
division league during the weekend as they look to challenge defending
champions PLS Hawks for the title.
Mont Fleuri Dawgz were up against MBU Rockers in what on paper promised to be a close match-up. Back on the court, veteran Lenny Aglaé led the game in scoring with 21 points for Dawgz who also got 20 points from Cyril Agrippine.
The Rockers were looking to produce the same kind of performance they gave against defending champions PLS Hawks in the Curtain-raiser semifinal a few weeks ago, but they were uninspiring early on as the Dawgz took a 13-point (19-6) lead at the end of the first 10 minutes of play.
They kept the same momentum in the second quarter as they increased their lead to 33-15. The Rockers could not get back into the game and lost on a 54-68 score.
The defeat leaves the Rockers with plenty to work on ahead of their next game against Drifters.
Dan Come finished with a game-high 19 points as Premium Cobras beat last year’s second division winners Praslin Warriors 79-46. Jackson Auguste finished with 17 points to lead Praslin Warriors in scoring.
Meanwhile, in a second division match, Victoria Shooters edged Anse Etoile 66-60.
Captain Ricky Sicobo was the game’s top scorer with 19 points and Luciano Moumou scored 18 for Anse Etoile.
