RWANDA : Ur-Coe Suffer Heavy Defeats, Espoir Remain Unbeaten

University of Rwanda, College of Education (formerly KIE), suffered two emphatic defeats to Cercle sportif de Kigali (CSK) and holders Espoir over the weekend in the national basketball championship.
On Saturday, two-time defending champions Espoir beat UR-CoE 116-41. Lionnel Hakizimana scored the game high 29 points, while his teammates Aristide Mugabe and Bienvenue Ngandu added 26 and 19 points respectively.
And things went from bad to worse for the university team as they went down by even a larger score line of 138-51 against CSK on Sunday. It was once again a game of Buzangu brothers where Mike Buzangu scored the game high of 62 points while his elder brother Patrick Buzangu added 34.
CSK who have so far played seven matches, have won six and lost one game to reigning champions Espoir, who themselves have won all their nine games. Espoir's unbeaten record in regular season league stretches to over two seasons.
The 2011 champions, CSK had earlier on Friday beat APR 74-51 at their home court at Cerce Sportif de Kigali in Rugunga.
"We are happy to win the games this weekend, which means the battle for the title goes on. We have to take every single game serious until the end of the season," CSK trainer Janvier Kamanzi told this paper on Monday.
As it stands, Espoir are top with a maximum 18 points, two ahead of APR, who have won seven and lost two matches, while UGB stand in third position with six wins and four losses respectively and CSK stand fourth with 13 points.
