TANZANIA : Savio, Vijana Take Command in Ilala Basketball League

SAVIO and Vijana City Bulls launched their campaign in this year's Ilala District Basketball league with sound note on Friday, after winning their opening matches.
Played at the Zanaki Secondary School in Dar es Salaam on Friday evening, Savio inflicted Jogoo with the first defeat, posting 82-75 victory.
Savio started the game well to take an early 19-17 lead in the first quarter, but Jogoo were too aggressive in the second quarter to add 23 points against 14 of their opponent.
Jogoo finished the quarter leading 40-33. Sensing the danger of defeat, Savio had to amend the second quarter mistakes and step up the tempo.
No wonder they took command with a dominant performance in which they added 27-18 points during the third quarter, before they hit 22-17 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Jogoo had a wonderful second quarter but found the going tough in the final two quarters and they endured a 82-75 defeat. Mohamed Yusuph scored 22 points to lead his team Savio to victory.
He shot three points six times in the match as Naftali Msogoti and Abdul Mtambo slotted in 15 and 8 points respectively. Youngster Stephen Mshana was instrumental for Jogoo after he contributed 18 points.
He impressed many fans who turned up to witness the match for his skills and techniques. He shots three points five times while his team mate Haruna Saringo scored 11.
Mshana outclassed experienced players like Msogoti and national team members Yusuph, who last year played at Uganda league.
In other match played the same day, Vijana City Bulls got an easy 104-73 victory over Magone. The long-week tournament brings together six Ilala District teams including Airwing and Tanzania Prisons.
