GHANA : CEPS win West Africa top eight basketball tourney in Benin
Ghana’s Braves of CEPS continued their fairly tale story after emerging champions at the recently concluded West Africa top eight basketball championship held in Benin.
The Ghanaian side saw off Asfax of Benin in the final to lift the ultimate title over the weekend in the neighbouring country.
The Custom Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Braves beat Jordan Warriors of Liberia in the semi-finals before accounting for the host nation in a crunch game.
The three-day competition attracted teams from Togo, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Niger, Liberia and Benin.
The Sports Director of the Ghana Revenue Authority, who doubles as the chairman of the Greater Accra Basketball Association, Benjamin Baafi, was happy with the commitment of the players of the GRA, majority of whose appointments, he said, were yet to be regularised, and appealed to the leadership of the authority to initiate measures to employ those players.
Mr Baafi That, Mr Baafi said, would serve as motivation for the players to remain committed to the cause of the organisation.
According to him, even after playing for almost a decade without being engaged as full employees, majority of the players continued to put in their best to project the image of the organisation.
Mr Baafi, however, expressed appreciation to the leadership of CEPS in particular and GRA as a whole for their support and immense contribution to the respective teams and gave an assurance that they would continue to work hard to bring honours and also to grow the image of the organisation.
