Zimbabwe: Garura Tourney on Cards

FORMER Kingdom Cavaliers players and the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe are hoping to hold the first Ronald Garura Unity Day tournament in Harare in memory of the late national coach. The tournament is set to run from this Friday to Sunday with clubs from different provinces and a team from Namibia participating.
BUZ competitions director, Simon Lawson, said preparations for the tournament were underway.
"We are trying to put up a Ronald Garura Unity Day tournament. We have clubs from Harare, Manicaland, Bulawayo and Gweru.
"We had also invited two teams from Zambia but now they are saying they won't be able to come but there is one team from Namibia and they have confirmed that they are coming. Zambia are having their national championships.
"The whole idea is to honour Garura through the tournament and have people come together and celebrate his life.
Garura, a former national player and coach, died in October last year.
Meanwhile, the basketball mother body will hold elections during their congress in Harare on December 29 to elect a new executive. The outgoing executive led by Addison Chiware got into office in 2009 and their four-year term expired in September when a notice was sent out for the forthcoming elections.
