SEYCHELES : Heat down Cobras to stay top, Drifters lose again

Premium Cobras blew an early lead to lose to Beau Vallon Heat in Sunday’s men’s division one league game, while Drifters failed to win for the fourth successive time in the second round of the championship.
After a hyped up PLS Hawks had restored order with a 71-54 win over an undermanned Baya on Saturday, the Beau Vallon Heat/Premium Cobras matchup was surely the second double-header of the weekend.
Premium Cobras went into Sunday’s game on the back of two consecutive wins and were looking to make it three when they met league leaders Beau Vallon Heat. It also started well for the Cobras as they took an early 11-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, coach Guy Hall managed to inspire his Heat team who came out for the second quarter more determined and they dominated Cobras 29-11 to open up a 10-point gap – 32-22 – on their opponents.
The third and fourth quarters were closely fought – 13-13 and 14-15 – but Heat managed to hold on to record a 59-50 win and hand the Cobras their first loss in the second round.
Amadou Sylla’s 16-point contribution was not enough for the Cobras, while Jean-Paul Camille led the scoring with 19 points for the Heat who also got 16, including three treys from Christopher ‘Toto’ Camille.
In the day’s other top flight match, Ervin Agathine scored 19 points and was helped by teammate Arnaud Arissol with 17 points, but it proved to be too little to help Drifters to their first win of the second round.
Their defeat came at the hands of MBU Rockers who had Pascal Bibi scoring 16 points in a 62-58 win. The win was Rockers’ sixth this season, while Drifters had to settle for another defeat, leaving them with three wins in 12 games.

In the only men’s second division match played last weekend, Christian Toulon must have thought his 25-point haul would have been enough to secure the win for his Anse Etoile team, but it was not to be as Razors edged them 69-67 to move up to second place in the table.

Kenneth Moustache had 19 points and Serge Radegonde added 15 points for Razors.
