Nigeria: Kada Stars Threaten Strike Over Poor Funding

Players of Kada Stars basketball team have threatened not to honour the remaining matches of the DSTV Premier Basketball League in protest against non payment of salaries and allowances.
The players yesterday refused to turn up for training and intimated officials of the club of their intention to go on strike.
Owners of the team, the Kaduna State Government, according to reports had not been funding the club and the players had to work without salary and allowances for six months.
Captain of the team, Timothy Kwaor, said unless there was concrete assurances by the government between now and Wednesday, "the players will not play their subsequent matches".
He said most of the players were finding it difficult to feed while a lot of them were contending with accommodation and health challenges.
The team Coach, Sani Turi, noted that the players had been wonderful in their performance in spite of their challenges.
"We are always on top of the table even though it is a young team, so far we have played very well and expecting to do better before the season ends."
The coach urged the state government to address the funding crises of the club to further motivate the players.
The state Director of Sports, Yakubu Haladu, acknowledged that the team was facing funding constraints, but said two requests for funds had been sent to Gov. Mukhtar Yero for approval.
"As soon as the governor gives order for the release of the money all the challenges would be addressed", he said. NAN
