KENYA : Eagle Wings fly past NYTA-Shimba, Lions roar over Nakuru

  • Eagle Wings proved their prowess once more to beat NYTA-Shimba 79-27 in the only women premier match played on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.
    The defending champions led 33-10 at halftime after 16-6 and 17-4 wins in the first two quarters. They ran riot over the Coastal side upon resumption winning the closing quarters 23-7 and 23-10 respectively. Annerose Atieno top scored for Wings with 15 points.
    Vilma Achieng, playing against her former side, and Janet Akoth added 14 each. Taundenciah Peter had 7 points for Shimba. The loss came only a day after Shimba registered a 61-37 win over Kenyatta University Oryx.
    Lions intensified their push in the men premier with a 62-48 win over the visiting Nakuru Club. Tobias Onyango hit 15 points for Lions with Ancettas Wafula adding 12.
    James Okerio scored 20 points for the visitors. Lions won the first two quarters 18-13 and 16-9 to take a 12-point lead to the breather. Nakuru came out strongly in the third quarter to win 14-12 but Lions wrapped up the win with a 16-10 win in the fourth quarter.
    Terror fall to USIU
    University of Nairobi’s Terrorist pushed United States International University- Africa, USIU-A, to the extreme before losing 45-41.
    Terror were trailing by 11 points at halftime after USIU won the opening quarters 15-14 and 14-4. Terror held off the challenge in the third and fourth quarters to win by slim margins of 9-5 and 14-11.
    It was, however, too late to salvage anything.
    Hillary Kubai and Alex Bamazani top scored for Terror and USIU respectively with 9 points each. Ulinzi Warriors was the other winner of the weekend after beating Mennonite Knights 76-72.
    This was the soldiers’ fifth win in a row.
    Bernard Mfutu top scored for Ulinzi with 20 points while William Ochieng added 14. Kusher Diliwe scored 17 points for Mennonite as Collins Ochieng added 16.
    Mennonite won the first quarter 24-17 while Ulinzi carried home the second 21-13 to give the soldiers a one point lead at halftime.
    Ulinzi won the third quarter 19-18 extending their lead to two points going to the fourth quarter which they won 19-17.
    In division one, Equity Bank beat World Hope 63-54 while Trailblazers recorded a slim 59-55 win over Kenya Airports Authority, KAA. Collated Results: World Hope 54 Equity Bank 63, Eagle Wings 79 NYTA-Shimba 27, Trailblazers 59 KAA 55, Mennonite 72 Ulinzi 76, Terror 41 USIU Tigers 45, Lions 62 Nakuru Club 48.
