UGANDA : Lamunu Lifts KCCA Past Stormers

KCCA Leopards' Claire Lamunu was the difference in Sunday's encounter against Magic Stormers in the Airtel National Basketball League game at YMCA, Wandegeya.
The 18 year posted a game high 19 points for the table leaders and picked seven rebounds, to outscore last season playoffs MVP Flavia Oketcho was the only other Leopards player to reach double figures with 10 points.
"It was not an easy game because Stormers are big but our game plan worked and my shot was on," explained the match winner after the win put them on 14 points.
Leopards whose game plan was designed to neutralise Nyafwono deployed their top scorer from last season Martha Soigi for the role. Nyafwono was duly suffocated with Soigi amassing 11 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in the game.
Sylvia Twesigye who managed a team high 12 points for the Stormers who struggled to make an impression on the game. Despite the loss, Stormers retained third spot in the standings.
Meanwhile, action in the men's category was intense as all teams involved were looking to work their way out of the relegation zone.
Winless and now second bottom side, Miracle Eagles was outscored in the second half and lost 51-69 to a determined Charging Rhinos side. The win marked the latter's second win in the league and lifted them to eighth position.
Two times champions Nkumba Marines secured their second win after narrow 58-53 win over Victoria University Heaters in an all University affair. Marines are now sixth; four positions clear off relegation while Heaters are ninth, just one place above safety.
