UGANDA : Enabu gets Warriors past Titans

Enabu gets Warriors past Titans
KIU Titans 46-58 Kyambogo Warriors
MUK Sparks 27-62 KIU Rangers
Point guard, Ivan Enabu scored season and game high 20 points and Brian Gumisiriza added 12 points to lead warriors to a 58-46 win over KIU Titans Friday night at the MTN Arena.
Warriors and Titans posted an ugly offensive first quarter as you will ever see combining for a mere 10 points. What seemed like a defensive battle, opened up in the second frame sparked by back-to-back rain makers from Warriors who took the quarter 22-19. “We had to take the game at them and worked as a team at this” Enabu who also swipped 8 steals told Kawowo Sports.
Titans made a nearly matching response but only for one quarter (second) and scoring just 21 points the rest of the game. “The guys got tense in the third and fourth quarter” KIU’s coach Nimrod Kaboha said. Francis Kasekende led Titans (3-2) with 15 points and 9 rebounds in 36:46, the most by any KIU player on the night “He was making a lot of defensive stops for us. He had to be on the floor” Kaboha said on Kasekende’s playing time.
Sam Gombya ( 6 points, 9 rebounds & 2 blocks) bested his opponent, Bol Akol ( 7 points, 7 rebounds) forcing him to turn into a jump-shooting big, a role that is far from his abilities. “He (Akol) still lacks strength in the lower body and we are going to work on that” Kaboha said.
Warriors (4-1) were out rebounded by Titans 41-33 but played with more slippery hands committing 35 turnovers compared to warriors’ 29. The reigning champions scored a co-season low 58 points, a score they were limited to by UCU in their only loss of this season. “Nearly half of the team is new. You get a few struggles here and there but we will get better” Enabu said on the fluidity of the team.
Meanwhile KIU’s lady side, Rangers recorded a third successive victory. Rangers (3-2) beat MUK Sparks 62-27. Judith Nansobya led KIU with game high 10 points. Florence Nanyonga, Ruth Nakitto and Aurore Irakoza contributed 9 points each for Rangers. Sparks (1-3) were led by Winnie Anyango with 9 points and Norah Namutosi added 8 points that went along with 13 rebounds.
