NIGERIA : Union Bank Inflicts First League Defeat On Oluyole

Union Bank at the weekend defeated table toppers Oluyole Warriors of Ibadan 63-46, inflicting the first defeat on them in the ongoing 2013 DSTV Men's Basketball League Competition in Lagos.
The Oluyole Warriors had won all the six matches they played so far before succumbing to the uncompromising play of a determined Union Bank side.
Coach Ayinla said in a chat that his team had to win because the competition had reached the stage where the teams played to gain the maximum points at stake.
"We played very well today and did not allow Oluyole to play their normal game. We knew what they could do so we had to be really hard on them.
"We need to play like this sometimes when we meet stronger opposition.
"The league has reached a point where we cannot afford to slip up," he said.
In his reaction to the setback, Coach Yemi Abiodun of Oluyole Warriors told said the team's loss did not come to him as a surprise.
"We are not surprised about the loss, we have started the league well and we will bounce back from the loss in our next game," Abiodun said.
In the other match, Dodan Warriors of Lagos proved too strong for Comets of Lagos with a 77-55 point victory.
The Dodan Warriors coach, Adeka Daudu, said it was important for the team to maintain its current form, to keep pace with their rivals.
"We had to win today; having recorded just three victories out of six games, we needed this game to remain with the pack," Adeka said
