Defending Ladies Basketball national league champions Eagle Wings suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down 46-28 to students Strathmore University on Sunday evening at the Nyayo Gymnasium.
In the absence of their star player Samba Mjomba who is out for a month with an ankle injury, Eagle Wings looked a pale shadow of themselves as they committed several errors leading to their loss. Eagle Wings were guilty of too many turnovers against Strathmore who looked sharp on the evening. The defending Champions lost easy baskets as they also slumped to poor defending.
They however managed to scrap an 8-5 win in the first quarter with both teams struggling to bury the ball inside the basket. Strathmore were to expose Eagle Wings’ weaknesses in the second quarter, taking it 19-7.
The third quarter was closely fought but the students managed a 10-9 win finishing off a perfect day with a 12-4 win in the last quarter. Eagle Wings had not lost in its opening four matches prior to the downfall at the hands of Strathmore.
