GAMBIA : Basketball SG calls on professionals to register teams in the league

Thursday, May 02, 2013
The Secretary General of the Gambia Basketball Association, Abdoulie M. C. Jallow, has called on all basketball professions to have basketball teams and compete in the league.
“We want the game to be spread all over the country, as we call on all interested to be taking part in basketball competitions,” he said, making particular reference to journalists, the navy and the police among others.
He pointed out that the GBA would like sports journalists also to have a basketball team to be participating in the leagues.
The GBA Secretary General made these remarks recently in an interview with the Pointsport after making a presentation of certificates and basketballs to sports journalists recently at the All-Star competition clash at the Independence Stadium basketball court, as a sign of promoting and developing the discipline in the country.
Jallow pointed out that the association deemed it significant for journalists to be taking part in league competitions, which he said will play a key role in upgrading themselves not only in reporting on the discipline but also to have a broad knowledge on the rules and regulations of the game as they develop interest in it.
Jallow went on to commend the US Embassy for its contribution to developing the discipline in the country and thanked the Peace Corps volunteers who also devoted their time to complement the efforts of the GBA.
