KENYA : Maseno Meet St. Mary?s Yala in Lake

Champions Maseno School qualified for today's finals after easily overcoming Homa Bay in the basketball semifinals of the Lake Region Secondary School Games. Maseno, fielding their 'B' team, beat Homabay 104-38 in the first semifinal at Kisii University and will face St. Mary's Yala in the finals, where, Raphael Francisco and Charles Chan are expected to play key role.
Yala led by Raphael Francisco and Charles Chan edged out fancied Ambira 58-40 in the other semi. Maseno coach Paul Otula said: "I have not fielded my first team in the entire championship. I may field them in the final."
The finals will be played today at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho. In the girls' category, St Mary's Mabera shocked defending champions Ulanda Girls winning 54-14 to book a final date with Raliew who defeated Kisumu Girls 46-26. Netball champions Obambo thrashed Kobala 46-14 to qualify to the finals.
Free scoring Irene Apiyo and Christine Atieno inspired Obambo to the victory. Obambo now will face Ogande in the final. Ogande narrowly beat Nyarach 28-23 in the other semi-final.
Obambo coach Rose Onyango vowed to retain their title. "My target is to win here then goal all the way to win the national trophy and qualify to the East Africa games," she said.
Maseno School and St Mary's Yala will today renew their rivalry when they face each other in the rugby finals. In the semis, Maseno defeated a stubborn Nyabondo High 14-10 while Yala walloped Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho 45-03. Yala had their three players disqualified for being non-students.
