KENYA : KPA in perfect season start at Makande

Kenya Ports Authority men and women basketball teams on Saturday won their first league matches at the Makande Hall in Mombasa defeating Shimba Hills and Ulinzi Warriors respectively. These were the first matches for the Mombasa based teams after the postponement of the first weekend meets on day one.
MEN
In the men’s match played at 4:00PM, KPA defeated Ulinzi Warriors 100-72 (23-18, 16-21, 26-14 and 35-19) with Samuel Ocholla pulling the strings for the victors posting 25 individual points. Dickson Aaran and Tony Owino both had 16 points.
Victor Odendo was the star of the Warriors managing 26 points While Byron Wasilwa had 11.
WOMEN
In the women’s match also played at the Makande Hall on Saturday, Yvonne Akinyi led the hosts KPA in their 85-43 win over Shimba Hills in winning quarters of 21-14, 20-07, 24-13 and 20-09.
Akinyi had 19 points assisted by Evelyn Akoth with 12 points and Brenda Angeshi with 9 points.
Lynette Atieno had 12 points for Shimba while Berine Awuor scored 08.
In Kakamega, women league defending champions Eagle Wings opened their campaign winning against Western Delight 71-28 at the Police Canteen.
