KENYA : Eagle Wings soar past Storms as Co-op Bank holds off Strathmore

KBF Premier League Defending Champions in the ladies category Eagle Wings continued with their good start to the league as they overcame Storms 65-43 on Saturday afternoon at the Nyayo Gymnasium. Eagle Wings has won all the matches that they have played so far and in the match against Storms they took the first 3 quarters then drew in the last quarter.
The 1st quarter ended 19-6 while the 2nd quarter saw Storms push Eagle Wings getting 14 points against the Champions 16 points to put the half time scores 35-20 in favor of Eagle Wings. The 3rd and 4th quarter ended 17-10 and 13-13 respectively to ensure Eagle Wings take 2 league points home after the win. Team captain Silalei Shani gave Eagle Wings 18 points while 2011 MVP Samba Mjomba had 15 points. Linnet Mukiri was Storms top scorer with 11 points.
In the other women’s premier league match Co-op Bank ladies team survived a scare as they narrowly beat Strathmore University 32-30 at the same venue. They took the 1st quarter with a resounding 13-5 win and then dominated the 2nd quarter also with 10 points against Strathmore’s 5 points to put the half time scores at 13-10 in favor of the Bankers.
The 3rd quarter was a close call for Co-op Bank as Strathmore had 11 points while Co-op Bank sunk in 13 points and in the last quarter the students beat Co-op with a margin of 3 points the score being 9-6 but Co-op survived the day. Celia Asila gave the Bankers 10 points followed by Linet Atieno who had 7 points while Susan Manya gave Strathmore 8 points.
The league resumes on Sunday where the Strathmore men’s team will be up against Lions.
