ZIMBABWE : Churchill, Roosevelt Take Bob '89 Honours

CHURCHILL and Roosevelt were crowned the Bob '89 basketball champions at Hellenics Sports Club after some impressive displays yesterday.
The first edition of the basketball event had seen several clubs and schools taking part in the competition. Churchill beat Prince Edward 30-26 in the final to be crowned the boys champions while in the girls section, Roosevelt overcame from Masvingo 21-16 in a tightly-contested encounter.
The inaugural Bob '89 basketball tournament begun on Friday at the various courts in Harare including City Sports Centre, Hellenics Sports Club, Richwood Park and Girls High School.
The tournament was held to commemorate the life and leadership of President Mugabe.
All basketball-playing schools in the country converged in Harare for the tournament.
The tournament was being held under the theme: "Inspired by a Legend, Empowering Youth Through Sport-Shooting 90" and was organised by the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BAZ), the Harare Basketball Association, the Ghetto Basketball League and the National Association of School Heads (NASH).
Bob '89 patron Ambassador Simon Khaya-Moyo said he was happy to be associated with the sport.
"I am happy to be here for the first edition of the Bob '89 basketball tournament and it is good that we have such a good turnout. To all the teams that took part, I say never lose hope as you are all winners and we look forward to (your participation) next year.
"The event is important as it is held to commemorate the life and leadership of President Mugabe," Khaya-Moyo said.
