The Lions basketball team will resume training next week. The team that was formerly sponsored by Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB Lions) will be taking part in the 2013 season without the financial backing of the sponsors who pulled out their sponsorship earlier this year.
“We shall analyze the situation after the general elections and from there we can start training as soon as next week Wednesday.” Says coach Shitsama, “We are probably going to train at Utalii or Barclays basketball courts but we are still assessing logistics.”
Shitsama says that they will have to depend on themselves and also well wishers to finance their participation in the league this season, “hopefully we shall get a sponsor in the future but for now its contributions from our own pockets and well wishers but that will not deter us. We are still determined to play and have a good performance.”
The team is expected to meet this Saturday to discuss their strategy ahead of the new season, “we shall know whether all the players are committed to the team or if there is anyone who has the desire to leave to join other teams, and from there we shall have set up our way forward.” Shitsama concludes.
