TANZANIA : TBF Picks Zone V Basketball Final Teams

THE final squads that will represent the country in this year's Zone Five Basketball championship to be staged in Dar es Salaam was revealed with a blend of new and old guards.
The players have been picked after a mini-event in which they played amongst themselves for the past three days. Speaking during a press conference held at the Don Bosco in Dar es Salaam, coaches Bahati Mgunda (men's team) and Evarist Mapunda (women's team) said the selection strictly observed talent, discipline, commitment as well as winning mentality.
Mgunda said his provisional team that had 32 players started training some two weeks ago, in which he trimmed his squad to remain with 18 players by Sunday. He said three more players will be chopped from the Tanzanite kings list on Wednesday to remain with only 15 players, whose names will be sent to FIBA for registration ahead of the tournament, which will start on January 21, this year.
On his side Mapunda said the women's team (Tanzaniate Queens) had initially included 25 players, but the number has now been reduced to 18 on Sunday. Three more players will be dropped from the team by Wednesday, he said.
Mgunda named Tanzanite kings as Point Guards: Ladislaus Ikungura, Gerald Baru, Abdalah Ramadhani (Dulla) and Henry Mwinuka (kidume). Shooting Guards are Sudi Abdulrazak, Sylivian Yunzu (Maige), Mussa Chacha, Frankline Simkoko.
Small Forward: Mohamed Ally (Dibo), Amir Muhidin Saleh, Lusajo Samwel (captain), Anthony Jeikanga and Erick Kahagwa. Post Player/Centre are Gilbert Batungi, Juma Kisoky, Fadhil Abdalah, Mwalimu Kheri and Murshid Mudricat. Tanzaniate Queens squad has Centre/Post Player: Veronika Kubilu and Penina Igwe. Power Forwad: Jackline Shemeza, Jasmin Mamdali Bablia and Diana Mwaka.
Small Forward: Imelda Hango, Amina Lyamaiga and Veronica Patric. Off guards: Sajda Lymaiga, Zakia Kondo and Husna Alphan. Point Guards: Semeni Abeid, Jokha Suleiman, Rehema Silomba and Lucy Agustino. The reserve list has Marium Mangara, Bahati Kanafunzi and Maureen Sizya. Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Assistant Secretary General, Michael Maluwe said that they will on Monday move into residential training at Traventine Hotel in Dar es Salaam.
He said hired coach Albert Sokaitis from Post University in the US will not be able to join the team, but he will send his assistant Jacques Sconiers for the task. Maluwe said Sconiers is set to jet in Dar es Salaam tomorrow. The Zone Five championship will attract 12 countries including Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda, South Sudan and hosts Tanzania.
