TANZANIA : Dar es Salaam Ready to Host Zone Five Basketball Tourney This Month

TANZANIA is ready to host more than ten teams which are expected to participate in this year's Zone Five Basketball Championship to be staged in Dar es Salaam from January 21 to 27.
Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF), Assistant Secretary General, Michael Maluwe said that preparations for the event are progressing well with host keeping on early training for their national sides. However, Maluwe called for material and financial support for the national sides currently training at the Don Bosco grounds in the city.
"We call for public support be it financial or material to facilitate the national team's proper training as well as to show up for the training session and cheer them up," he said. He said the men side is training at the Don Bosco Oysterbay under Coach Bahati Mgunda, while the ladies side is training at Don Bosco Upanga grounds under the tutelage of Evarist Mapunda.
Maluwe said currently they are doing renovation of the National Indoor Stadium and they are putting marking at the open space at the National Stadium where the games will be played too. "The government has given us the open space at the National Stadium, we are currently putting on marking and fixing goals ahead of the event," he said.
He said by January 10, this year, they will be in position to know the countries which will make it for the event since the confirmation and registration is done through FIBA. The expected countries for the meet so far are host Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia and Southern Sudan. He was not sure about Djibouti and Somalia participation.
