TANZANIA : Bugando Heat Unstoppable in Mwanza Basketball League
BUGANDO Heat maintained their quest to be a formidable force in the Mwanza Regional Basketball Association (MRBA) League with a 77-71 victory over Eagles at Kiloleli courts in the region earlier this week.
MRBA has organized the league with a view to promote the sport among youths in the region, apart from using the event to shape the participating players ahead of major domestic and regional assignments.
Bugando Heat's players have so far commanded a promising run in the league and their win over Eagles was simply a continuation of their ascendancy to success.
Despite Eagles having battled hard to avoid defeat during all four quarters of the match, their opponents had an upper hand and ultimately came out victorious by the time the final buzzer went off.
Another match pitting Dolphin Pasiansi against St. Francis, which was scheduled to take place at the same venue later on, was called off for reasons that were not put clear by the league's organizers.
For Eagles, the defeat at the hands of Bugando Heat has prolonged their woes as they were smarting from a disappointing 62-16 loss to the experienced Butimba Spiders a week back. Improving performance now remains the biggest challenge to the youthful Eagles, should the team dream of staying in contention for the trophy.
Bugando Planet, the region's basketball big guns, are seemingly enduring similar disappointment as they suffered a narrow 58-57 defeat to emerging force, Bugando Warriors, a week before.
Bugando Planet will need to win their forthcoming matches to reverse their frustrating trend in the league they have dominated for years otherwise the team will risk losing their status as one of top contenders.
Other teams competing in the league are Dragon, Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) Stars and SAUT Warriors.
