UGANDA : KIU beat Falcons to go third

Richard Osano scored 18 points (13 in the second quarter) and picked 9 rebounds as kiu tatans beat falcons 70-63 on Tuesday night at YMCA.
Falcons (18-4) got into the game early taking the first quarter 17-12 but Titans (16-5) responded in the second quarter and went up with 7:56, kept falcons under 10 points in the period and took a 30-26 lead into halftime.
Nelson Njau (13 points and Moses Olobo (11 points) took over the third quarter for KIU to push the university side’s lead into double figures as Falcons played the 10 minutes with levity. Edwin Katerega scored team and co-game high 18 points for Falcons and led the rally back in the fourth quarter for the former champions.
Substitute center, Mark Orom opened the final period for KIU from downtown to ignite a n 8-2 run that saw Titans take a 17 points lead with 6:13. Steven Omonyi (12 points), Philip Ameny (16 points, 8 rebounds) led falcons back and with 3:16 they had trimmed kiu’s 17 points lead to 9 but Njau restored titans lead to double digit with a corner 3-ball.
With 1:20 Katerega was sent to the line, hit one throw and Ameny banked in one off the second and missed shot and Omony made the final basket.
Meanwhile Miracle Eagles beat Nkumba Marines 65-50 led by guard Yusuf Mohamed.
Andrew opio added 11 points and center, Ivan Lumanyika’s 9 points went along with 14 boards. Brian Sivachi led Marines with a 12/11 performance and Wynard Kigobe scored team high 13 points.
