TANZANIA : National Basketball Meet Fail to Attract Sponsors

DAILY NEWS Reporter THE national basketball championship has once again failed to attract sponsors thus forcing the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) to push back the event, which will now start on October 29 to November 5.
TBF Assistant Secretary General, Michael Maluwe said that the championship earlier planned to start at the Mkwakwani Stadium and Bandari courts in Tanga from Saturday has to be rescheduled to fit in other logistics.
"The venues remain the same, we only changed the kick off dates, this is due to the fact that we failed to get sponsors as planned," said Maluwe. He said the regional teams which failed to confirm their participation earlier, they can now do so, advising them to utilize the extended time accordingly.
Maluwe also said that the duo American coaches are expected to be available during the starting of the national basketball championship, should they secure entry visas ahead of the national championship. He named some of the regions which have confirmed to compete in the championship as hosts Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Mbeya, Iringa, Dodoma, Tabora, Morogoro and Singida.
However, he said the federation has yet to receive any word from Mwanza and Dar es Salaam, saying with the deadline extension 'hopefully' they will make it. Singida and Mbeya regions are title holders for men and women respectively. Maluwe said the championship in Tanga will be used as a stage for the American coaches to scout talents and also have a glimpse of Tanzania's basketball playing pattern.
