UGANDA : Power in contest of familiarity

Brian Wathum’s reign as DMark Power coach ended unceremoniously three years ago. He has since moved on from the debacle of failing to advance from the pool stage of the Fiba Africa Zone V Club Championships.
Today, Wathum belongs to the next generation of young coaches and has done well this season with Victoria University Heaters. His side faces five-time Airtel National Basketball League champions Power at YMCA court hoping to at least provide a contest.
“I am not afraid to try out things. We are making a lot of adjustments on our defence,” Wathum said. Heaters lie just inside the playoff positions in seventh at 9-8 having edged Marines 55-52 last week. Power have also gone a step better by finishing third in this year’s Zone V but their league form suggests differently.
They lie third at 13-4. One of the things coach Bernice Ankunda must demand is for Joseph Ikong to finish better following a recent lean spell.
