Rwanda: Basketball Keague Kicks Off Soon

THE national basketball league will start at the end of this month, Rwanda Basketball Federation Secretary General Richard Mutabazi has confirmed.
Initially, the league was scheduled to start in the first week of May but was pushed back due to unspecified reasons; sources say they were financial related.
And now according to Mutabazi, clubs intending to be part of the 2012/13 league have until Wednesday (today) to register.
He also revealed that each club will be permitted to field only two foreign players on matchdays. "We have been working hard to set new and clear rules to avoid ambiguity and we hope to have good league next season."
"We have agreed that the league will start at the end of this month and it (league) will be better than last year's when we encountered so many challenges on and off the field," Mutabazi explained.
Kigali Basketball Club won the men's title last season, while APR were crowned the women's league champions.
Last season the men's league was comprised of eight teams; KBC, APR, Espoir, CSK, KIE, St. Joseph Kabgayi, Rusizi and UGB, while the five teams contested the women's league, they included; APR, NUR, KIE, CSK and St. Alloys.
