KENYA : KPA to recruit five ahead of FIBA games

Ahead of the forthcoming African FIBA club championships in Ivory Coast, Kenya’s club KPA ladies team is seeking to recruit five top rated stars. The Coast based outfit who won the regional competition last year in Daresalaam finished in second place behind winners Eagle Wings in the 2012 edition of the recently concluded Zone 5 basketball championships held in Kampala Uganda.
According to team coach Ojukwu Anthony, KPA is going out to improve on last year’s performance where they lost all their preliminary matches during the FIBA competition played in Nigeria.
“We want to have a strong team. Last year we learned from experience and at that level of competition we need to be at our best. The rules allow that we can bring on board more players so long as they have not featured in any FIBA related matches for another team in the current season.” Ojukwu says.
During the Zone 5 competition in Kampala Uganda, KPA included USIU Flames duo of Hilda Indasi and Sarah Chan and the two are highly likely to be part of the traveling team to Ivory Coast later in October.
“Other clubs in this competition bring the best players in their countries and we more like play national teams because they recall all their professionals for the championships. We are going there to represent Kenya alongside Eagle Wings and that is why we need to have the strongest team.” Ojukwu added.
