SEYCHELLES : Interesting match-ups in SBF Cups

The draw for the women’s and men’s Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) Cup competitions starting in late September has thrown up some interesting matchups.
In the women’s competition, defending champions Anse Etoile Stars will come up against tough opposition in the form of Mont Fleuri in their first match on Sunday October 7.
If they are able to beat Mont Fleuri, the Stars will move to the semifinal where they will meet Juniors who have won a bye straight into the last-four stage.
In the bottom half of the draw, HotShots and RA Sisters are already in the semifinal and the winners of the Friday October 12 clash will qualify for the final slated for Saturday October 27.
Outgoing men’s champions Mont Fleuri Dawgz have quite an easy path, at least until the quarterfinal round. Coach Nigel Ah-kong’s team await the winners of the all-second division clash between AAP Brothers and Razors. Their toughest challenge might come in the semifinal where they could meet one of three top flight teams – MBU Rockers, Baya and Cascade Bullets.
Losing finalists Premium Cobras are in the bottom half of the men’s draw and their first game is on October 8 against Juniors whom they are expected to beat to set up a quarterfinal showdown with either RC Dynamics or PLS Hawks.
The men’s final is on the same day as the women’s on Saturday October 27.
Meanwhile, the SBF is this year organising a Second Division Cup competition, giving the second tier teams an opportunity to play among themselves as they rarely go far in the SBF Cup.

Only Praslin Warriors are not involved in both the Second Division Cup and SBF Cup competitions as, according to the an SBF spokesperson, the travel costs to Mahe for matches are too high.
