Nigeria: QRSS Gboko, Others in Nestle Milo Basketball

Defending champions of the Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championships, Queen of the Rosary Secondary School Gboko, have qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing 14th edition of the competition.
The two-time winner of the annual tournament which dunked off on Tuesday in Lagos defeated Yejide Girls Secondary School, Ibadan, 30-21, in their second match on Wednesday, to reach the semi-finals.
Earlier, the school had in their opening game in the girls' category, defeated St. Jude's Girls Secondary School, Amarata, Bayelsa, 25-18.
Ahmadiya College, Kano has also qualified for the semi-finals in the boys category after beating Government Secondary School (B), Minna 43-33.
Ahmadiya College had also on Monday, in their opening match, defeated the defending champions in the male category, St. Augustine's Secondary, Ezzangbo, Ebonyi, 42-33.
Coach Yakubu Dauda of Ahmadiya College said in an interview that his team was determined to emerge winner of the championships for the third time.
Dauda said his team featured last in the competition in 2010 and placed 2nd, but they could not qualify last year.
"I think I have been long enough in these championships to know our chances of emerging champions and I am 100 per cent sure that we are going home with the cup this year," he said.
His counterpart from Minna, Biodun Emmanuel of Government Secondary School (B), whose team lost the first qualifying match to Ahmadiya College, said that they lost because of lack of concentration.
He said his players did not defend as they ought to and missed a lot of scoring chances.
Emmanuel expressed the hope that winning its second match could help his team to play the third-place match. NAN
