KENYA : USIU Flames' heat unstoppable as Lions roar on

The USIU Flames seem to be unstoppable in the Women’s Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League as they lead the table standings with 20 points after winning all their 10 matches. The outstanding form of Hilda Indasi and Sarah Chan has helped the side even beat Defending Champions Eagle Wings whom they upset 58 – 52 last weekend.
Eagle Wings are in 2nd place with 16 points followed by Co-op Bank who have 15 points from 9 matches. They share the same number of points with Storms who have won 5 of their 10 matches. Their latest defeat came courtesy of Mombasa based Kenya Ports Authority on Sunday going down 46 – 64. Western Delight (14 points), KPA (13 points) and Strathmore University (10 points) occupy position 5, 6 and 7 respectively.
The last three teams are Mennonites, NYTA Shimba Hills and Gladiators. Mennonites has 8 points failing to win a single match in the 8 they have participated in followed by Shimba Hills who have 7 points, winning 2 of their 5 matches. Gladiators are rooted at the bottom of the standings (6 points) also not winning any match since the league kicked off in April.
In the men’s category KCB Lions still dominate the standings after they banked Ulinzi 74-65 on Sunday. The Lions also another unbeaten team in the league has 20 points followed by USIU with 18 points. USIU ‘Tigers’ record is 8/10 with their two defeats coming from the league leaders KCB (78-49) and UON Terrorists (87-85).
Strathmore who will play Co-op bank on Friday evening follow at 3rd position with 15 points. KPA is next with the same number of points with both teams winning 6 of their 9 matches. Defending Champions Co-op bank is at 5th with 14 points after winning 5 of its 9 matches.
The mid table is occupied by UON Terror (13 points), Mennonites (12 points) and Blazers (11 points). The three teams are at positions 6, 7 and 8 respectively. Kakamega based Masinde Muliro is at position 9 after playing 7 matches winning just 3 of those.
Ulinzi has managed to move in the table standings displacing Thunder to the 10th position despite the two teams sharing 7 points. Ulinzi has played 6 matches winning only one while Thunder has taken part in 7 matches, winning one losing 4 and forfeiting one. Kisumu based Lakeside are the last team with 5 points. They have only one win when they beat Strathmore at the Kisumu Sports Grounds, they have lost 4 and forfeited one.

The league resumes on Friday evening at the Nyayo Gymnasium.
