KENYA : Footprint Girls clinch Excel Basketball Trophy

Nairobi based Footprints Girls team clinched the annual Excel Daima Girls Basketball tournament after defeating Alliance Girls 18-13 in a thrilling final staged at the Excel Girls school in Kitengela.
The tournament that was sponsored by Daima Milk in conjunction with Excel Girls High school attracted 10 teams. Prior to the finals , Footprints Girls defeated Moi Girls 16-2 in the semi finals while Alliance Girls had eliminated Precious Blood ‘B’ 18-4 in a tough encounter that drew wild cheers from spectators.
The tournament was graced by Excel Girls school Chairman Peter Gitonga , Daima Milk General Manager Kiran Dhotre and Cricket star David Obuya among other officials.
Team’s that featured in the one day tournament included Makini school, Moi Girls”A”, Kenya High “A”, Precious Blood “B”, Alliance, Footprint, Moi Girls”B”, Kenya High “B”, and Precious Blood “A”
respectively.
While presenting medals to winners, Gitonga lauded Daima Milk for sponsoring the tournament and choosing to hold the event in the newly build basketball court .He noted that sports is an art of exchanging culture and sharpening the talent of the youth.
“People from all walks of life have now woken up to a new reality that sports is a new avenue of employment and in the process some have attracted huge sponsor’s in the international arena and to add icing to the cake, monetary benefits ” said Gitonga
He challenged the competitors to push their talents to the maximum limits to win while urging them to use that success as the beginning of bigger things in sports.
“We in Excel Girls school strive to give students solutions that will empower them to face the future with pride and confidence. Basketball is part of the solutions we are developing in our school” Observed Gitonga.
