KENYA : Eagle Wings in last minute financial appeal

Kenya Basketball champions Eagle Wings are faced with a sharp financial crisis just two days before the team departs for Kampala Uganda where they are expected to take part in the 2012 edition of the Zone 5 regional basketball championships set for next week between 20th -26th of August 2012.
The club officials are appealing to well wishers to step in and support the team’s kitty to actualize their dream of qualifying for the African championships in Ivory Coast later this year. Currently the team needs close to 250,000 to facilitate their smooth travel and participation in the games.
The reigning Kenyan champions qualified for the 2010 African club championships that were held in Tunisia after winning the regional title in Burundi but failed to travel since they could not raise the needed 3 Million shillings. They also skipped last year’s regional championships in Daresalaam Tanzania due to lack of finances.KPA are the current regional defending champions.
“We have missed two major championships because of lack of finances. We have done all that we can and the girls worked hard in preparations but currently our traveling hangs in the balance. We urgently need Kshs. 250,000 from well wishers.” Said Agina Wesonga an official of the club.
The team is expected to depart Nairobi n Sunday night by road to Kampala and the players have vowed to reclaim their title to earn themselves a ticket to the African championships.
