LESOTHO : LBA to host a ladies only tournament
Lesotho Basketball Association is set to host a ladies only basketball tournament next month; dates for the tournament have not been confirmed yet. According to the Association’s PRO, Rats’olo Molupe the tournament will be used to revive the spirit of participation amongst ladies basketball players and to try to get more ladies teams registered with LBA as at the moment only 3 ladies teams are registered to the National Basketball League compared to 8 men’s teams.
To prepare for this maiden tournament the LBA got an invitation to attend a similar tournament to be held on the 11- 12 August at Wits University but due to financial and time constraints the Association cannot sent a ladies team to participate in the tournament, but a delegation of 4 people led by the Mrs. Mathapelo Motsoane, will go to the Gauteng tournament to forge relations and learn from them and also to invite teams to the Lesotho tournament.
Mrs. Motsoane is the Women in Sports committee member of the LBA and she is tasked with getting more ladies participation in basketball.
“The day will belong to the ladies as they will be the highlight of the day with no men’s games to take the attention from them and also life skills sessions will be run alongside the basketball tournament,” said Molupe.
Meanwhile the Winter Tournament that was organized by the LBA last week did not conclude due to rain and the date for the final is still to be announced. Before rain interrupted the tournament it was evident that KTA All Stars was to face Bashana Baeso in the finals, only three games remained including the final before the interruption.
