Kenya Polytechnic ladies basketball team that plays in the Nairobi Basketball Association League (NBA) lost one of their players, Diana Akinyi Oriwo in the Mlolongo tragedy where a building collapsed on Saturday evening.
Akinyi had played for the Kampala International University’s Rangers in the MTN basketball League in Uganda before coming back home and plied her trade for ‘Poly’ as the students are commonly referred to.
Speaking to michezoafrika.com, Kenya Polytechnic coach Victor Mak’Osewe said that the side had lost one of its most experienced players whose demise has left a big gap,
“She was one of the best defensive players and we shall really miss her.” Osewe said.
“She was full of life, a leader and an experienced girl in the team and her sudden death is a big blow not only to our team but to the Kenya Basketball family.” The coach added.
Akinyi was also sister to Daystar University point guard Davidson Oluoch.
Michezoafrika.com would like to send condolences to the family, friends of Diana Akinyi and the whole basketball fraternity in Kenya. May her soul rest in Peace.
