UGANDA : Titans’ Omondi punishes Falcons

Falcons did all they could to hold onto Richard Omondi but he slipped out of their grasp into the KIU Titans’ den last week.
The Kenyan returned in demolition form, scoring a game high 18 points and 12 rebounds for KIU Titans to defeat Falcons 64-54 in the Fuba League at YMCA court on Wednesday. It was Omondi’s second appearance for KIU having put in a 40-minute shift in the 51-42 win over UCU Canons on Sunday. KIU coach Nimrod Kaboha is not willing to rest him soon. “I want to get Richie back to the player he was,” Kaboha said.
Little success at Falcons
The Kenyan’s big introduction to Uganda was during the 2009 Zone V Club Championships as he led Co-operative Bank to the regional title.
His two years at Falcons bore little. This one was a close game throughout until the final period which KIU edged 20-14.
With the game tied at 48-up, Rwandese Nelson Njau (10 points) sunk tow big shots from downtown and from then on, Falcons were dead and buried.
Stephen Omony scored 16 points on a forgettable shooting night to crown a bad third debut for Falcons.
Kenyan forward Philip Ameny had only four points and eight boards on his season bow. The team is a country mile from gelling under coach Tony Oluka.
The two sides seem to be the closest any team will come to breaking the DMark Power-Warriors duopoly this season and Kaboha feels it.
“My target is to win every game and I will prepare that way,” Kaboha said, wearing a grin, conveniently evading talk of a maiden title.
